Jorinde Voigt mit Prozessen von Wahrnehmung und Vorstellung. Dabei dienten der
Kuenstlerin Roland Barthes „Fragmente einer Sprache der Liebe“ (2004) sowie Douglas R.
Hofstadters „Goedel, Escher, Bach. Ein Endloses Geflochtenes Band“ (1979) als Vorlagen.
Voigt setzt Woerter aus den Klassikern in ihre verschluesselte Sprache aus Notation und
Collagetechnik um. Die Unterteilung der Serie in drei Blöcke (21, neun und sechs Blaetter)
spiegelt Voigts Auseinandersetzung mit den verschiedenen Kapiteln der Buecher wider. Der
Zeichenzyklus ist als unmittelbare Fortfuehrung der Collagen „308 Views on Plants and Trees“
und „100 Views on Chinese Erotic Art. From 16th to 20th Century“ (2011) entstanden. Nach
der Welt der Botanik und der Bildenden Kunst folgt nun die Literatur als Forschungsfeld der

“Piece for Words and Views”, 2012
In her new series of 36 drawings, “Piece for Words and Views” Jorinde Voigt is concerned
with processes of perception and imagination. The artist took Roland Barthes’ “Fragmente
einer Sprache der Liebe” (2004) (Fragments d’un discours amoureux, 1977) and Douglas R.
Hofstadter’s “Gödel, Escher, Bach. Ein Endloses Geflochtenes Band” (Gödel, Escher, Bach:
An Eternal Golden Braid, 1979) as patterns for this work. Voigt transposes words from these
classics into her encoded language of notation and collage technique. The division of the
series into three blocks with 21, nine and six sheets reflects Voigt’s study of the different
chapters in the books. The drawing cycle was produced as a direct continuation of the
collages “308 Views on Plants and Trees” and “100 Views on Chinese Erotic Art. From 16th
to 20th Century” (2011). After the worlds of botany and fine art, the artist has now turned to

RE/PRO/DUCING COMPLEXITY: Nelleke Beltjens, Hedwig Brouckaert and Jorinde Voigt

RE/PRO/DUCING COMPLEXITY presents drawings and drawing-related works by three young women artists from three European countries: by Nelleke Beltjens (°1974, the Netherlands), Hedwig Brouckaert (°1973, Belgium) and Jorinde Voigt (°1977, Germany). In recent years all three artists have emerged on the international scene with demanding and innovative approaches in the medium of drawing.

The fact that our society is characterized by rapidly increasing complexity manifests itself not only in such important sectors as the economy, science and technology, where even experts have trouble keeping abreast of developments. The growth of complexity may be felt on down into our daily lives, changing all areas of life. This constitutes at once both enrichment and mental overload, a broadening of our horizons and a loss of orientation. Beltjens, Brouckaert and Voigt address this theme of complex and intricate reality and the perception of it, each using their own means. Nelleke Beltjens understands her drawings as metaphors for the incomprehensibility of life, human existence and its conditions; Hedwig Brouckaert works with redundant visual material, such as that disseminated by the mass media, which she alienates and “neutralizes” with her selections and layerings; In diagram-like drawings, Jorinde Voigt develops new structures of order and relationships between selected areas of reality, creating spaces for the viewer’s imagination in this way. As different as the respective artistic approaches of the three woman artists are, they are equally highly complex, in keeping with the famous statement by the sociologist and systems theorist Niklas Luhmann who said: “Only complexity can reduce complexity.” Peter Lodermeyer (Bonn, Germany) will be curator of the exhibition.

Jorinde Voigt is best known for her flowing and vibrant lines, blended together in a rhythmic way to create an imaginary landscape in constant motion. For her schematic works, she chooses different elements (movies, plants, buildings or paintings, for example) placed in graphical structures dominated by different axes such as distance, geographical location, and time. The result is an enigmatic experience for the viewer, who is left attempting to understand the symbolism behind each line and sign in Voigt's art, and the complexity of her mind. Voigt was born in 1977 in Frankfurt, Germany. She graduated from Meisterschülerin Bildende Kunst and George August University, Gottingen, and is has been participant of notable international projects such as the Venice Biennale, 'Between Nothingness and Eternity' (Regina Gallery, London) and Art Unlimited at Art Basel in Switzerland, among others.
